Strange & Mysterious (101M034) was composed by Eliseo DiDomenica – whose credits include music in the television series The Deadly Omen, The East Area Rapist, Vice, Trail Of Betrayal, The Antoinette Tuff Story, Deadly Riddle, Woman Behind Bars, Murder In The Store, Dateline, 20/20 to name a few.
“I’m excited to have written this project for 101 Music Pty Ltd, which is an interesting exploration of ambiguous drama and unsettling emotions in the mystery tension genre.
“When I first met Art (Arturo), owner of 101, at the Production Music Conference 2017 in Los Angeles, we hit it off immediately as we are both of Italian descent, and also ironically both born and raised in Pennsylvania, USA – with very strong connections to our Italian family heritage.
“As Arturo conjured up a brief regarding the direction of the project, he made it plain and simple and very easy for me to understand, stating that the music must be dramatic, mysterious and edgy. Music that could accompany an unnerving, dark and unsettling scene from The Godfather, Scarface, Killing Them Softly, Goodfellas or My Cousin Vinny.
“The brief then followed with important keywords for inspiration in addition to an imaginary but descriptive scene of ‘Cousin Vinny at work’ – if you know what I mean. Adjectives such as doom, uneasy, disturbed, dangerous, troubled, twisted, suspense, tense, ominous and a little bit creepy……all of that mamma mia!
“Italians have a knack for the descriptive you see, so yes, we really were on the same page.
“I decided to step out quite a bit and really modify some of the instrument sounds, textures and colors. I detuned many of the layered textural pads and strings, added processing effects such as flanging and phasing on everything from the mallet instruments, keyboards and basses on through to the explosive iron beam strikes which were struck with hollow metallic bats. I really had a ball.
“Lastly, Kathy Naunton from dB Mastering (Sydney, Australia), who mastered the album for 101 Music Pty Ltd, added a bit more twisted audio textures here and there by using an auxiliary send fader to manually bring in ominous outboard effects and old fashioned tape delays selectively over the mix.
“I hope you enjoy the project – Spero che vi piaccia il progetto”.
